What Affects the Price of Custom Boxes?
"How much do custom boxes cost?" is the first question most brands ask, and the honest answer is that it depends. Our boxes start from $0.75 per unit, and the price rises with your specifications. This guide explains what moves the price so you can plan a budget before you ask for a quote.
1. Size
A bigger box uses more board and more ink, so the unit price goes up with size. A small pillow box for a lip balm or a soap bar sits at the low end. A large mailer for a gift set sits higher.
2. Material and thickness
Thin paperboard is the lightest and cheapest. Corrugated and rigid board cost more because they use more material and, in the case of rigid boxes, more hand assembly. Choose the lightest board that still protects your product, and check the packed weight first.
3. Printing
A one color print costs less than a full color print. Printing the inside of the box as well as the outside adds to the price. Simple, clean artwork is often cheaper and looks more premium than a very busy design.
4. Finishes
Foil, spot UV, embossing, debossing and soft touch lamination all add cost. Pick one finish that matters, such as foil on the logo, instead of stacking several.
5. Quantity
Most of our products start at 100 units. The more you order, the lower the cost per box, because setup and plates are shared across more boxes. If you are testing a new product, start at the minimum, and move to a larger run once it sells.
6. Inserts and extras
Inserts, dividers and window cut outs change the price. A candle box with a snug insert will cost more than a plain sleeve, but it protects the jar in transit.
